Ingredients
- Apple: Use any variety you prefer for a sweet and tart flavor.
- Pineapple: Fresh or frozen works great. I prefer frozen for a thicker, colder consistency.
- Banana: Ripe bananas add natural sweetness. Use fresh or frozen.
- Ground flaxseed: This adds fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. Chia seeds or hemp hearts can be used as substitutes.
- Plant-based milk: I used almond milk, but any dairy-free milk like soy, coconut, or oat milk will work.
As always, you can find the full recipe with a list of ingredients with measurements in a printable recipe card at the end of this post.
How To Make Apple Pineapple Smoothie
Combine: Add chopped apple, pineapple chunks, banana, ground flaxseed, and plant-based milk to a blender.
Blend: Blend until smooth and creamy, then pour into glasses and enjoy immediately.
Variations
- No banana: Skip the banana and add extra apple or pineapple for sweetness, or try a handful of frozen mango for a tropical twist. Try my pineapple ginger smoothie without banana for a lighter option.
- Protein boost: Add a scoop of your favorite plant-based protein powder for a more filling smoothie.
- Citrus kick: Squeeze in some fresh lemon or lime juice for a tangy, refreshing flavor.
- Add greens: Toss in a handful of spinach or kale to sneak in some extra nutrients without altering the fruity flavor.
Storage
This smoothie is best enjoyed fresh, but if you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Give it a good shake or stir before drinking.
For longer storage, freeze the smoothie in ice cube trays and blend when ready to enjoy!
Top Tips
- Use frozen fruit: Opt for frozen pineapple and banana to create a thicker, colder smoothie without needing ice.
- Adjust sweetness: If you prefer a sweeter smoothie, add a drizzle of maple syrup or 1-2 dates.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Yes, apples and pineapples complement each other beautifully. Their sweet and tangy flavors create a refreshing and vibrant combination, making them perfect for smoothies, salads, and desserts.
To freeze pineapple, start by cutting the fresh fruit into bite-sized chunks. Spread the pieces in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid, then transfer them to an airtight container or freezer bag for long-term storage.
To make a smoothie sweeter, you can add natural sweeteners like ripe bananas, dates, or a drizzle of maple syrup. Alternatively, using sweeter fruits such as sweet apples, mango, strawberries, or ripe peaches can enhance the overall sweetness without the need for added sugars.
