Chocolate cherry smoothie is one of my favorite smoothies to make during cherry season, when I'm enjoying fresh cherries almost every day.

While I love eating them straight from the bowl, blending them with cocoa powder, oatmeal, peanut butter, dates, and almond milk creates a thick, velvety smoothie with a rich chocolate flavor and sweet cherry notes.

After blending this combo many times, I've found it turns out perfectly smooth, naturally sweet, and incredibly satisfying.

If you love quick, wholesome drinks that taste a little like dessert but work for breakfast too, you'll definitely enjoy making this smoothie.

If you enjoy chocolate smoothies, you might also love my peanut butter banana cocoa smoothie, banana protein smoothie, or chocolate avocado peanut butter smoothie.

    🍒Ingredients

Frozen cherries, rolled oats, oat milk, raw cacao powder, peanut butter and dates for preparing healthy chocolate oatmeal smoothie
    • Cherries: You can use frozen or fresh cherries; if using fresh, add a few ice cubes for a cold, thick smoothie.
    • Oats: You can use rolled or quick oats.
    • Cocoa powder: Use quality unsweetened cocoa for a rich chocolate flavor.
    • Plant milk: I chose unsweetened almond milk, but any dairy-free milk works-soy, oat, or cashew milk are all great.
    • Dates: They add natural sweetness, or you can use a splash of maple or agave syrup.
    • Peanut butter: Adds creaminess and protein, or you can swap with almond butter, cashew butter, or homemade Nutella.

As always, you can find the full recipe with a list of ingredients with measurements in a printable recipe card at the end of this post.

🔪How To Make Chocolate Cherry Smoothie

Frozen cherries, rolled oats, oat milk, raw cacao powder, peanut butter and dates in a blender cup.

Combine. Start by placing the oats in a high-speed blender and process for 10-15 seconds until finely ground. Add the pitted frozen cherries, plant milk, cacao powder, peanut butter, and dates.

Blend. Blend until completely smooth and creamy. Taste the smoothie and adjust the sweetness if needed with an extra date or your preferred sweetener. Serve immediately, topped with crunchy granola or chopped dark chocolate.

Hint: If you only have fresh cherries, remove the pits and freeze them for at least an hour. This way, you'll have perfectly frozen cherries ready for your delicious chocolate smoothie.

    📋Variations

    • Protein boost: Add a scoop of vegan protein powder to make it a more filling smoothie.
    • Hidden veggies: Blend in a handful of spinach or kale for extra nutrition and energy.
    • Extra creamy: Use frozen banana, avocado, or dairy-free yogurt for a richer texture.
    • Superseed power: Toss in chia, flax, pumpkin, or hemp seeds for added nutrients.

    💡Marinela's Tips

    • Choose ripe cherries: The riper, the sweeter-this helps keep your smoothie naturally sweet without extra sugar.
    • Adjust consistency: Add more plant milk for a thinner smoothie, or more frozen cherries for a thicker, frosty treat.
