This Sweet Potato Latte (Goguma Latte) is the ultimate cozy vegan drink for cold days, made with just 5 simple ingredients.

Creamy, naturally sweet, and lightly nutty, it delivers all the flavors of sweet potato pie in a warm, comforting mug.

For another cozy fall/winter drink, try my turmeric latte.

Korean sweet potato latte without coffee (Goguma latte drink).

Sweet potato latte starts with one of my favorite ingredients: sweet potatoes, a wonderful produce God blesses us with that's nourishing, naturally sweet, and incredibly versatile (I use them often in my sweet potato pancakes and sweet potato wraps).

It has become one of my favorite comforting drinks, blending almond milk, maple syrup, vanilla, and cinnamon into a velvety goguma latte that's smooth, lightly spiced, and tastes like a warm hug with dessert vibes.

It's a wholesome drink that makes me pause, unwind, and enjoy a warm sip.

If you're in the mood for more dairy-free sweet drinks, try my homemade strawberry oat milk or a bright spirulina morning drink. For something refreshing and caffeine-free, I also love my homemade mint tea or zesty lemon ginger tea.

    🍠Ingredients

    Ingredients for sweet potato latte.
    • Cooked sweet potatoes: Roasting is my top pick for rich, caramelized flavor, but you can also steam, boil, or air fry them until soft. Canned sweet potatoes work well, too.
    • Almond milk: Creates a creamy, dairy-free base for a luscious latte. Oat milk, soy milk, or any plant-based milk can be used instead.
    • Maple syrup: Naturally sweetens the latte. You can swap it with brown sugar, agave, or your preferred sweetener.
    • Vanilla extract: Adds a warm, aromatic depth.
    • Cinnamon powder: Gives a gentle hint of spice for a cozy, comforting finish.

As always, you can find the full recipe with a list of ingredients with measurements in a printable recipe card at the end of this post.

🔪How To Make Sweet Potato Latte

Diced sweet potatoes on baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Prepare sweet potatoes. Wash, peel, and cut the sweet potato into small ½-inch (about 1.5 cm) cubes.

Roasted sweet potatoes on baking sheet.

Roast sweet potatoes. Toss the cubes in a light coating of oil, spread them in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and roast at 390°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until soft and easily blendable.

Creamy sweet potato latte mixture in blender.

Blend. In a blender, combine the roasted sweet potatoes, almond milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Blend until smooth and creamy.

Sweet potato latte mixture in saucepan.

Heat the mixture. Pour the blended latte into a small pot or saucepan and warm over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until heated through.

Garnish and serve. Pour into mugs and top with frothed milk, coffee creamer, or a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flavor and richness.

    🍽Best Sweet Potato Varieties

    • Orange sweet potatoes: The most common variety, with bright orange flesh and a naturally sweet, slightly earthy flavor.
    • Purple sweet potatoes: Vibrant purple flesh with a naturally sweet taste, adding a beautiful color and unique flavor to your latte.
    • Okinawan sweet potatoes: Purplish skin with colorful flesh, offering a sweet, nutty flavor that works wonderfully in creamy drinks.
    • Japanese sweet potatoes: Reddish-purple skin with creamy white flesh, sweet and starchy, perfect for a rich, velvety latte.
    • White sweet potatoes: Creamy white flesh with a milder, subtly sweet flavor compared to orange sweet potatoes, ideal for a gentle, smooth drink.

    📋Variations

    • Coconut twist: Use coconut milk for a creamy coconut flavor.
    • Spiced comfort: Add ginger or pumpkin spice for extra warmth.
    • Maple pecan: Top with chopped pecans and a drizzle of maple syrup.
    • Vanilla bean: Infuse milk with a vanilla bean for a rich, fragrant flavor.
    • Cardamom hint: Add a pinch of ground cardamom for an exotic touch.

    💡Marinela's Tips

    • Cut evenly: Make sweet potato pieces the same size for even cooking.
    • Use parchment: Prevent sticking and make cleanup easy.
    • Roast ahead: Saves time when you're ready to blend.
    • Drain canned potatoes: If using canned or other cooked sweet potatoes, drain well to avoid a watery latte.
    • Cool before blending: Let roasted potatoes cool slightly to avoid overheating the milk.
    Caffeine-free vegan sweet potato latte.

    ❓Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

What is a sweet potato latte?

A sweet potato latte (also called goguma latte in Korean) is a creamy, coffee‑free drink made from cooked sweet potatoes blended with milk and a sweetener, often spiced with cinnamon for a smooth, naturally sweet flavor.

Can I make it with coffee?

To make a sweet potato coffee latte, add a shot of espresso or strongly brewed coffee to the blended sweet potato mixture before heating. Adjust the sweetness and coffee strength to suit your taste.

Can I use an immersion blender?

Yes! An immersion blender works perfectly to blend the sweet potato mixture until smooth and creamy for your latte.

Can I make this latte without a blender?

Yes! You can make a sweet potato latte without a blender by mashing the cooked sweet potatoes and whisking them into the milk and sweetener. Using a blender, however, creates a smoother, creamier texture.

How do I store leftover sweet potato latte?

Let the latte cool completely, then transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 2-3 days. Reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave, stirring well before serving to restore its creamy texture.
