Sweet potato latte starts with one of my favorite ingredients: sweet potatoes, a wonderful produce God blesses us with that's nourishing, naturally sweet, and incredibly versatile (I use them often in my sweet potato pancakes and sweet potato wraps).
It has become one of my favorite comforting drinks, blending almond milk, maple syrup, vanilla, and cinnamon into a velvety goguma latte that's smooth, lightly spiced, and tastes like a warm hug with dessert vibes.
It's a wholesome drink that makes me pause, unwind, and enjoy a warm sip.

🍠Ingredients

- Cooked sweet potatoes: Roasting is my top pick for rich, caramelized flavor, but you can also steam, boil, or air fry them until soft. Canned sweet potatoes work well, too.
- Almond milk: Creates a creamy, dairy-free base for a luscious latte. Oat milk, soy milk, or any plant-based milk can be used instead.
- Maple syrup: Naturally sweetens the latte. You can swap it with brown sugar, agave, or your preferred sweetener.
- Vanilla extract: Adds a warm, aromatic depth.
- Cinnamon powder: Gives a gentle hint of spice for a cozy, comforting finish.

🔪How To Make Sweet Potato Latte

Prepare sweet potatoes. Wash, peel, and cut the sweet potato into small ½-inch (about 1.5 cm) cubes.

Roast sweet potatoes. Toss the cubes in a light coating of oil, spread them in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and roast at 390°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until soft and easily blendable.

Blend. In a blender, combine the roasted sweet potatoes, almond milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Blend until smooth and creamy.

Heat the mixture. Pour the blended latte into a small pot or saucepan and warm over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until heated through.

Garnish and serve. Pour into mugs and top with frothed milk, coffee creamer, or a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flavor and richness.
🍽Best Sweet Potato Varieties
- Orange sweet potatoes: The most common variety, with bright orange flesh and a naturally sweet, slightly earthy flavor.
- Purple sweet potatoes: Vibrant purple flesh with a naturally sweet taste, adding a beautiful color and unique flavor to your latte.
- Okinawan sweet potatoes: Purplish skin with colorful flesh, offering a sweet, nutty flavor that works wonderfully in creamy drinks.
- Japanese sweet potatoes: Reddish-purple skin with creamy white flesh, sweet and starchy, perfect for a rich, velvety latte.
- White sweet potatoes: Creamy white flesh with a milder, subtly sweet flavor compared to orange sweet potatoes, ideal for a gentle, smooth drink.
📋Variations
- Coconut twist: Use coconut milk for a creamy coconut flavor.
- Spiced comfort: Add ginger or pumpkin spice for extra warmth.
- Maple pecan: Top with chopped pecans and a drizzle of maple syrup.
- Vanilla bean: Infuse milk with a vanilla bean for a rich, fragrant flavor.
- Cardamom hint: Add a pinch of ground cardamom for an exotic touch.

💡Marinela's Tips
- Cut evenly: Make sweet potato pieces the same size for even cooking.
- Use parchment: Prevent sticking and make cleanup easy.
- Roast ahead: Saves time when you're ready to blend.
- Drain canned potatoes: If using canned or other cooked sweet potatoes, drain well to avoid a watery latte.
- Cool before blending: Let roasted potatoes cool slightly to avoid overheating the milk.
