Notes
This smoothie tastes best the day it is made however you can refrigerate it in an airtight container for up to 1 day.
Optionally, you can freeze it in an ice cube tray or popsicle mold for a healthy kid-friendly summer treat.
Use ripe fruits, organic if possible. You may want to skip the addition of maple syrup or any sweetener if your fruit is naturally sweet and flavorful.
A combination of fresh and frozen fruit will make your smoothie perfectly cold, thick, and creamy without the need for ice.
While you can throw in a few ice cubes if you are using only fresh fruit keep in mind that this will water down your smoothie. In this case, I recommend you consume it right away.
Reduce the amount of milk if you opt in for fresh fruit only.
Change the sweetness. The sweetness of this blackberry banana smoothie depends on the ripeness of the fruits you choose. If you like it to taste a little sweeter simply add one tablespoon of maple syrup, agave nectar, or 1-2 pitted dates.
Adjust the amount of milk to achieve the desired consistency. If you prefer a thinner consistency add a little more liquid. If you want it thicker use frozen fruit and less water.
