2cups + 6 tablespoonsall-purpose flourspooned into a measuring cup and leveled off with a knife, plus more for rolling
1cupwaterwarm
½teaspoonsalt
Instructions
Combine the flour and salt in a bowl, and stir together.
2 cups + 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon salt
Gradually add water while stirring until the dough forms a ball. Knead the dough for 3 minutes to develop elasticity and texture.
1 cup water
Preheat a skillet on the stove over medium-high heat (no need to grease it if it is non-stick). Divide the kneaded dough into 4 equal-sized portions, shaping them into balls for easier handling.
On a lightly floured surface, roll each dough ball into a 6-inch circle, about ½ inch thick.
Cook on the hot skillet for about 2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
For softer bread, after cooking, stack the unleavened breads on top of each other and wrap them in a clean, dry kitchen towel. The trapped steam will soften the bread slightly. Enjoy!
Notes
Storage: Allow the unleavened bread to cool completely to room temperature before storing it. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days, or in the fridge for up to 5 days. For longer storage, freeze in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature before serving.
Measure ingredients accurately. Use precise measurements for flour, water, and salt to ensure the right consistency of the dough.
Use a lightly floured surface. This prevents the dough from sticking while rolling it out for a smooth and even shape.
Your dough should be softly kneaded. If it feels too wet, gradually add flour, until it forms a soft ball. This prevents adding too much flour and making the bread tough.
Preheat your skillet over medium-high heat for at least a few minutes before cookingthe bread. This ensures the bread cooks evenly and gets a nice golden brown color.
For extra softness, stack your cooked breads on top of each other and wrap them in a clean, dry kitchen towel. This traps the steam while you cook the remaining dough, leaving it slightly softer at the end.
